CAPM Presence at Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas Youth Career Expo
We are excited to share CAPM's presence at the Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas Youth Career Expo. The event hosted 3,365 students from 39 different schools, and we had the privilege of spreading awareness about career opportunities within the maritime industry to the next generation of the workforce. Student Researcher Presents CAPM Research at TRB 2025 Annual Meeting
We are excited to share an update on Golnoosh Toosi, a research assistant under the direction of Dr. Zaloom and Dr. Wu supporting CAPM’s research projects. Golnoosh had the opportunity of presenting her research titled "Study of Ships’ Travel Delay in Staying at Turning Basins in Deep-draft Inland Waterways: Application to Sabine-Neches Waterway” to the Transportation Research Board’s 2025 Annual Meeting. Her AIS analysis work, coauthored with Minhajul Abedin Tajik, Dr. Xing Wu, and Dr. Victor Zaloom, focused on analyzing vessel delays and travel patterns in turning basins to enhance maritime efficiency and anchorages. Student Researcher Presents CAPM Research at O.U.R Conference
Golnoosh Toosi, a research assistant under the direction of Dr. Zaloom and Dr. Wu supporting CAPM’s research projects, presented her findings at Â鶹AV’s O.U.R Fall Conference, an opportunity for students to showcase undergraduate research projects. Her project investigates how ship travel patterns in turning basins impact efficiency in the Sabine-Neches Waterway. Her research demonstrated the need for deeper waterways and anchorages for ship refueling and ship store replenishment will accommodate growing demand. A huge thank you to Golnoosh for her hard work and dedication to industry relevant research for CAPM. (11/15/24)
Elementary students introduced to the maritime industry
Dr. Mamta and her team of research students visited Roy Guess Elementary to introduce students to the maritime industry and the diverse opportunities it offers. Thanks to the support of internal research funds, Dr. Mamta's initiative aims to develop maritime awareness curricula specifically for elementary-aged children. By creating early exposure, her goal is to help build a strong pipeline into the maritime industry for the next generation. (10/29/2024)
Providing SETX youth with hands-on experience
Â鶹AV's Center for Advances in Port management recently partnered with the Port of Port Arthur, the Port Arthur International Seafarers center, Texas A&M Nicki Fitzgerald, the Sabine Pilots, and many other SE Texas maritime leaders to provide SE Texas youth with a week of hands-on maritime knowledge and experience. The Port Capital Investment Report (PCIR) highlights a wide variety of infrastructure needs at Texas ports, including 51 projects totaling $1.67 billion. Funding keeps Texas ports competitive and helps continue to grow the state’s economy.
