Athletic Council Meeting 4/19/21 @3:30pm.
 
Those in attendance: Marco Born, Dr. Spina, Brad Mayer, Eric Shannon, Ginger Gummelt, Golden Wright, Jeff Spoeri, Jordan Nordgren, John Bello-Ogunu, Karla Lopez, Liv Haselbach, Alvin Brooks, Moses Dupre.
 
Dr. Spina
- Welcomed the members and explained the agenda for the day.
 
Marco Born
- Cardinal Choice Awards – virtual – May 10
- Extended invitation for A.C. members to be presenters.
 
 
- Change in Men’s Basketball – Alvin Brooks: new head coach
 
- WAC
- Weekly calls, scheduling, will officially move in July 1
 
 
- COVID testing continues; less if the sport is out of season
 
- Southland Conference Championship in Beaumont
- Soccer last week
 
- Men’s Tennis this week
 
- Women’s Tennis this week
 
 
- Life Skills event for juniors and seniors on Thursday. Employers will come speak to students
 
- Summer school – only for those who needed to graduate
 
- Construction starting after graduation ceremonies – football turf
 
- NCAA passed:
- Recruiting period ends May 31
 
- Uniform transfer policy – don’t have to sit out a year when transferring (one time)
 
 
- Night of Flight in August – Fundraiser
 
- Social Media Stats – 2 videos have gone viral

Dr. Spina
- Coach of the Day: a faculty member will be recognized at halftime during a football or basketball game.

Alvin Brooks
- (Dr. Spina) explained the role the Athletic Council plays in athletics
 
- Introduced himself and expressed that he loved to be back at Âé¶¹AV
 
- Honoring a coach during half time is a great idea. Offered to help. Explained how important it is for the athletics department to have a relationship with faculty.
 
- (Marco) explained experience when hiring Brooks and gave time for questions the members may have.
 
Dr. Spina
- Will send out schedules for future meetings
 
- (Marco) would like to meet in person in the fall.
